PARKLIFE 2011 LINEUP LANDS
CALLING ALL MUSIC LOVERS!
LOUDLY PRESENTING….THE PARKLIFE 2011 LINE-UP
TICKETS ON SALE MIDDAY THURSDAY 30TH JUNE AT PARKLIFE.COM.AU
Parklife, one of Australia’s longest running and most popular music festivals announced its 2011 artist lineup today. Known as the festival that kicks off the Spring/Summer music season in Australia, Parklife is held in beautiful inner-city parks and botanic gardens in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in September & October.
Parklife is one of the very few Australian festivals with a forward looking music policy and specialises in the best of indie-meets-dance from punk-funk to electro to house to dubstep. The lineup announcement always causes a
huge buzz of excitement and this year’s is one of, if not the best yet:
The Parklife 2011 line-up:
GOSSIP / LYKKE LI / DUCK SAUCE / SANTIGOLD / DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 / KATY B / THE NAKED & FAMOUS / CRYSTAL FIGHTERS / EXAMPLE / DIGITALISM (LIVE) / ADRIAN LUX / THE STREETS / SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO (LIVE) / MAGNETIC MAN / NERO / SEBASTIAN / DIPLO / MSTRKRFT / SEBASTIEN TELLIER / LITTLE DRAGON / MYLO (DJ SET) / WOLFGANG GARTNER / JOKER & MC NOMAD / FEED ME / TENSNAKE / KIMBRA / THE ASTON SHUFFLE (LIVE) / FLUX PAVILION / YACHT CLUB DJS / HARVARD BASS / GOLD FIELDS / PLUS MANY MORE
Enigmatic songstress Lykke Li will be heading to Australian shores to perform material from her critically acclaimed album Wounded Rhymes, proving her to be one of the hottest properties on the underground right now.
Undoubtedly one of the most respected acts in electronic music has to be Digitalism - and this time the boys are back with new album I Love You Dude, rumoured to be their best yet. Known for their crossover appeal to indie kids and electro heads, Digitalism are the act to follow if you’re serious about groundbreaking new music.
Parklife brings the dubstep movement to Australia with supergroup Magnetic Man, responsible for the floorshakers I Need Air and Perfect Stranger. Made up of the three individual artists Skream, Benga and Artwork, Parklife will be the group’s first ever Australian shows. Collaborator on Perfect Stranger and current postergirl of dubstep is Katy B who also features on this year’s line-up, also her first Australian shows. Joining them will be pioneers of the dubstep scene Nero and legendary dubstep dj/mc duo Joker and MC Nomad who have smashed the underground with monster tracks like Tron and that remix of Simian Mobile Disco and Beth Ditto’s Cruel Intentions.
But if fans want to catch the real deal, they can. Both Simian Mobile Disco and the Gossip will be sharing the Parklife line-up - let’s hope they get to share the stage as well! Coveted studio producers and one of the biggest electronic acts around, Simian Mobile Disco always bring the good times when they perform.
Post-punk rock trio Gossip will take to the stage to showcase work from current album Music for Men and material from their new album set for release later in the year. Loved for their raw animal power and energetic sound, all eyes will be fixed on charismatic front-person Beth Ditto.
Surely the must-see performance of the summer goes to The Streets who will play their last ever Australian shows at Parklife. After five albums together, the band have decided to go their separate ways but not before giving Parklifers a show to remember.
Widely recognised for cultivating new sounds in the current music scenes, Parklife once again brings us the freshest talent around including; Death From Above 1979 who have reformed for a series of exclusive riot-inducing (remember SXSW?!) shows. Add to this The Naked & Famous, current UK no1. Example, SebastiAn, Gold Fields, Wolfgang Gartner, Feed Me, Kimbra and Flux Pavillion. Joining them is producer extraordinaire Diplo, Canadian duo MSTRKRFT and electro feel-good Mylo. Duck Sauce will also be performing and who can wait for what might be one of the standout moments of the festival when they play the infectious Barbra Streisand to thousands of fans in some the most beautiful inner-city surroundings on offer.
With acts like these, Parklife 2011 is guaranteed to bring you some unforgettable moments you and your best mates will share forever. Set in idyllic parks in the country’s five capital cities, Parklife offers the best in quality music in the scenes that matter the most now!
PARKLIFE MOVES BACK TO BRISBANE!
PARKLIFE MOVES BACK TO BRISBANE!
Parklife 2010 is returning to its old home at Brisbane’s beautiful Botanic Gardens & Riverstage on Saturday 25th September. The festival was scheduled to take place at Parklands Gold Coast but is being relocated.
Festival organiser and Fuzzy Director, Adelle Robinson says “Despite months of negotiation and the efforts of Parklands, Gold Coast City Council and Queensland Police, we have been unable to ensure that the event can deliver a completely top class customer experience in September at the Parklands venue, due to major road works around the venue and a number of other operational issues which risked reducing the quality of the event.”
“Construction to be carried out during September and October for the Gold Coast Light Rail and Gold Coast Hospital and road works on Olsen Avenue have foiled attempts to devise a sufficiently effective traffic management plan to guarantee the quick and safe arrival and departure of customers. And it has become clear that Parklife will be a higher quality event for festival-goers if it’s held at the Botanic Gardens & Riverstage” she says.
Brisbane City Botanic Gardens has limited venue capacity, and Fuzzy have reduced the number of tickets being sold for Brisbane Parklife from previous years to ensure more space for festival-goers. But this also means limited tickets are available for Parklife Brisbane, so Fuzzy recommends getting in quick to ensure you get a ticket.
John Wall, Fuzzy Co-director says “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience the move causes to those who have bought tickets. We will be providing a free shuttle bus right to the door of Parklife Brisbane from Surfers Paradise to ensure no-one who has bought a ticket misses out. We have also set up a dedicated email hotline parklifebrisbane@fuzzy.com.au . Festival-goers should email us with any queries about the event relocation or to register for the free shuttle bus to Brisbane from Surfers Paradise,” he says.
Fuzzy say that many fans have contacted them telling how much they love the Botanic Gardens and Riverstage in Brisbane as a venue for Parklife, and many have been hoping the festival would return there.
As well as coming back to the leafy surrounds of Brisbane’s most picturesque park, Parklife 2010 is adding new stages; areas and surprises to kick start the party season in legendary style.
Running times remain midday to 10pm and tickets purchased for the Gold Coast venue are valid without having to contact the organisers or make any changes. Tickets at fuzzy.com.au and Oztix are sold out, so visit Ticketmaster to purchase remaining tickets to Parklife in Brisbane.
The event organisers would like to thank the Parklands venue, Queensland Police Service and Gold Coast City Council for the time they have spent working on the event.
