N*E*R*D [Star Trak, Virgina Beach, USA]
Are all the girls standing in the line to see Pharrell? Any N*E*R*D fan will know that a live show is all about the interaction with the audience. So ladies get ready to be serenaded by Pharrell Williams; Dressed in Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream sneakers he might even have you up on stage?
This show will be electric, with dancing the main agenda get ready for heavy guitars, big drums and lots of beats as the N*E*R*D bounces into Australia. With their digital musical palette and vivid imaginations, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo have taken their hip-hop foundation and un-tethered the bounds of pop, bestowing unsuspecting hit records in almost machine-gun-like succession - whether in rap (Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, et al), R&B (Usher, Babyface), pop (Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake) or rock (No Doubt). But N.E.R.D is not the Neptunes. N.E.R.D is a fly-or-die, thrash-around, do-as-you-will, set-your-soul-on-fire alter-ego that subscribes to no rules, and adheres to no agenda. It is Pharrell, Chad and Shay: a trio whose chemistry allows the uninhibited exploration of the sounds, emotions and impulses of self, society, identity and belonging.

Richie Hawtin [Berlin, Germany, Minus 8]
Artist, DJ, conceptualist and ambassador, more than anyone else in modern electronic music, Richie Hawtin has relentlessly proved himself to be a true innovator. The one-man mogul behind acclaimed Techno imprints Plus 8 & Minus sends signals out all over the world from his HQ in an old fire station in Windsor, Ontario – just across the border from Detroit Techno City. The signals are constantly evolving; his Plastikman persona gave Techno a unique face with a series of four ruthlessly minimal albums of skeletal beauty, while breathtaking festival live sets at Glastonbury and Tribal Gathering helped invent stadium Techno. His “Decks, EFX & 909” album released on novamute in 1999 expanded the concept of a DJ mix album beyond the imagination of most DJs. Now after waiting a long 4 years the people of Australia are eagerly awaiting the return of the man they call Hawtin. Always surprising, innovating and jaw dropping this techno king pushes the boundaries of modern electronic music. Techno & Minimal fans of Australia unite; Richie Hawtin is coming to town.

Grandmaster Flash [New York City, New York]
There are lots of stories about the birth of jazz and the beginning of rock n’ roll, but hip-hop has founding fathers: one of them is DJ Grandmaster Flash. The career of DJ Grandmaster Flash began in the Bronx with neighbourhood block parties that essentially were the start of hip-hop—the dawn of a musical genre. He was the first DJ to physically lay his hands on the vinyl and manipulate it in a backward, forward or counter clockwise motion, when most DJs simply handled the record by the edges, put down the tone arm, and let it play. By the end of the 70s, Flash had started another trend that became a hallmark of hip-hop: MC’s asked to rap over his beats. Before long, he started his own group, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Their reputation grew up around the way the group traded off and blended their lyrics with Flash’s unrivaled skills as a DJ and his acrobatic performances—spinning and cutting vinyl with his fingers, toes, elbows, and any object at hand. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five went Platinum with their single, “The Message.” Meanwhile, the single “The Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel” introduced hip hop DJing to a larger listening audience than it had ever known before; it became the first DJ composition to be recorded by a DJ. The group’s fame only grew with “Superappin,” “Freedom,” “Larry’s Dance Theme,” and “You Know What Time It Is.” Punk and new wave fans were introduced to Flash through Blondie, who immortalized him in their hit, “Rapture.”

Etienne De Crecy [Solid, France]
It’s all about the cube!! Etienne’s infamous cube show is coming to Australia and the Future Music Festival is the only place to see it. Born in Lyon, he has peddled his talent under several different guises, including Motorbass, La Chatte Rouge, and Super Discount. His first major undertaking, Motorbass, grabbed a cult following soon after its launch in 1991 and not only alerted the world to the rapidly evolving Parisian dance music scene, but also  spawned underground favorites like the Motorbass EP, "Transphunk" single and Pansoul album. An irresistible talent, de Crecy has also served up the legendary Super Discount and Tempovision albums, released countless  iconic tunes (including "Prix Choc" and "Am I Wrong?") and remixed the likes of Air and Alex Gopher.

Stephan Bodzin [Bremen, Germany, Herzblut-Recordings]
Authenticity is everything - without it everything would appear to be nothing more than a hollow shell", says someone who has found himself at the centre of the international techno scene since 2006. The passionate musician from Bremen has become a heavy influence for an awful lot of producers worldwide. With his album "Liebe ist..." (‘Love is...’) Stephan Bodzin has reached yet another highpoint in his career. He has remixed songs for well-known bands such as Depeche Mode, Booka Shade and The Knife. His releases can be found on labels such as Get Physical, Datapunk, Gigolo, Systematic and Giant Wheel. "I produce music to share it, and I can experience this great feeling in each of my gigs". On top of that Stephan has created a phenomenal live set that he performs around the globe. Stephan's music is as polarizing as he is, both as DJ and live artist. But there's one statement that holds true for all of his productions: they are certainly of the highest ‘authenticity’.

Yacht [DFA Records, PORTLAND, OREGON, USA]
YACHT is a lot of things. It’s kind of a band, but it’s mostly a genre-and-media-spanning life project founded and led by American, Jona Bechtolt. Bechtolt and new member Claire L. Evans, make anthemic power jams, play them backwards and soak them in nearly-psychedelic cherry cola! A promiscuous genre-smasher since his adolescence, Bechtolt is “indie rock’s Timbaland” and has plied his unique breed of beat-heavy laptop wizardry to endless collaborations. Evans is a media artist and musician who has presented her cosmic PowerPoint performances at MoMA PS1 and The Kitchen, and has frequently collaborated with Bechtolt since 2004. In 2007 the duo played more than 200 shows in 17 countries around the world (including Australia!) and toured with luminaries like LCD Soundsystem and Architecture in Helsinki.

Wolfgang Gartner [Austin Texas, Kindergarten]
In the often serious world of dance music, it’s good to see somebody still having a bit of fun. Meet Wolfgang Gartner, or as he's known to his parents; Joey Youngman. The early years of Youngman’s discography boasted releases and remixes on dozens of respected house labels like Tango, Om Records, Naked Music, Doubledown, and his own imprints; Fetish Recordings & Jackin Tracks. He donned a slew of production aliases including Mario Fabriani, White Collar Criminals, Frequent Fliers, and a few other colorful guises that helped to spice up an exceedingly frequent release schedule. 2007 marked a major step in Youngman’s career with the introduction of his new moniker: Wolfgang Gartner. Within the first year he had landed 3 top-10 singles on Beatport.com’s sales chart, a Pete Tong “essential new tune of the week” on BBC’s Radio 1, over 30,000 Beatport downloads, and a plethora of DJ support and accolades within the industry. It was early 2008 when Youngman made the decision to pursue the Wolfgang Gartner project full-time. Not since Eric Prydz first burst onto the scene has such an impact been made in the industry, could he be the new man on the block? We think so.
